I worked in a aluminum foundry shoveling sand into a mixer or working a jackhammer. It was my father's foundry so I was allowed to work there when I was 12.

I worked at the Jolly Viking Cafe in Garrison MN, on Lake Mille Lacs. My first job. In college I had a job washing test tubes at the water treatment plant, was promoted to getting sewage samples in said test tubes.

I worked at my small KY town’s Wal-Mart as a cashier. Back then, you had to punch in the department number and the price—no scanning a barcode!

When I was 16, I worked at a local restaurant. Every Thursday night, I had to peel, devein, and bread 20 pounds of shrimp. To this day, I hold a deep, personal grudge against those beady-eyed, ocean-dwelling exoskeletons. 🥴

In high schooI I worked overseas in Germany in a chem lab doing basic analytic work (family connex); the summer between freshman & soph. year at college I worked for Shanley for Senator in NJ, then during the following school year for the GOP State Committee in Denver.; summer a cashier @ a grocery.

I had a large paper route (about 400 houses) which we had to do by car. I was 14 and my Mom couldn’t make the throws to hit the porch so I drove and pitched the papers. It was 4:30 am so nobody knew. And I was an excellent driver. 🤪

My teen jobs were in a women's clothing retailer and then as a trainee in the local hospital's medical lab. What I learned in the lab has been very useful as an adult, understanding all the tests various docs order & their results. Of course, things like CAT scans & MRIs didn't exist then.
