Anyway I found a highly -$$$ price on a Marantz Cinema 70s which I know everyone says is stupid baby garbage because it's only 50W per channel but my living room is ~14'x16' and the main speakers are JBL L82 Classics so IDK if it's that big of a deal. I'll be switching over to HDMI ARC so thx. - ThreadSky

Those JBLs have a sensitivity of 88 dB which is the volume they can produce with just one watt of power (at 1m). Mine are the same and I previously used a cheap 50W per channel Onkyo and it was plenty. A surround setup will cut into the power per channel a bit but I think it’s probably still fine.

I saw someone else mention Dirac room correction and can absolutely recommend that too. If that’s something you’re interested in, Denon makes some good receivers with it built in.

All depends if your speaker is hard to drive but I think a 50w should be fine! Hope it works out well for you let us know your impressions when you get it all set up!

That's an awesome unit. I'm currently using the Cinema 50 and it is excellent. It just sucks that you have to pay for Dirac separately.

Don’t listen to the “stupid baby garbage” crap, most people have no idea how wattage actually translates and how, just like with computers, it’s just one component to judge audio quality/perf. Since Denon and Marantz share engineers now, they’re especially quality products.

They’re great speakers overall, just wasn’t sure if you were also needing speakers too. The 70s should also help tone down any sibilance that might come out of the titanium tweeter (I have two speakers with Al/Ti tweeters and my Marantz definitely improved that over my old Onkyo).

One thing I really appreciate from certain Marantz options, especially this one, is how DENSE it looks. Its got almost all the bells and whistles of the receivers double its volume, but can fit anywhere. I wish they were cheaper!

Oh hey, I have that receiver and I adore it. Never had problems with power or limiting. Plus it actually looks good compared to the industry standard "blinky black box".
