It’s so good. I watched this when it came out and was so impressed by the episode and „Why we fight“. I never saw another WW2 movie that combined fighting and the horror of a concentration camp. Rewatched it two years ago with my wife. Still love it.
You know if it were me, if I was there. If it was ‘my band of brothers’ as it were… I’m just sayin things mighta gone a little diffferent I’m just sayin. Woulda been a lot of blood and me telling everyone to relax!
It really is amazing when you watch that show- knowing that the Battle of the Bulge is an event that really happened- that men really went through, and not only that fought through and survived. Astounding bravery and grit.
A few months ago, I learned a friend of mine never saw Band of Brothers so I forced her to watch the whole thing and it turns out, Band of Brothers? still really good!
Anyway, our group chat for watching it was called Band of Girlthers, cause it was mostly girls
i once asked a modern cinematographer how come they don't light night scenes like BoB anymore and he looked at me and he said, "we can't...we don't know how..."
i remember when they tried to light certain scenes in season 5 of GoT and it looked really awful. they skipped that mistake in the final season and everybody shit on em for it.
I think masters of air is pretty good, but...its really hampered by the fact the bomber air service existed entirely to turn bus fulls of young men into corpses in exchange for a 5% reduction in enemy tank production, it's not exactly engaging
It's also hampered by it costing so much more money to produce so little television. Band of Brothers felt like a meaningful expansion and exploration of the places Saving Private Ryan only scratched at. MotA didn't have the time for anything.
It ended up being "wouldn't you rather be watching MASH?" "Wouldn't you rather be watching 1917?" "Wouldn't you rather be watching The Great Escape?" "Wouldn't you rather be watching the bit of The Pacific where the guy moves in with his Aussie gf's parents and fixes up their house?"
i've known since i was a kid that i would be one of the guys who didn't come back from war and i fully intend to perish during the resource wars in a few decades.
Yup we are using way too much water. Not only that, but we are EXPANDING and building into desert areas. Sometimes even putting up golf courses lol. Positive influx of people into high risk areas etc etc. We will be punished for our foolishness
When youre in war...people fuck up when bullets are flying.
People make mistakes.
A lot of soldiers can tell you this. We dont need television personalities pretending.
It happens.
My grandfather would know.
He was a medic.
I dont see the show casting shade on that one individual, but rather the war as a whole for being awful.
The showrunners arent saying: "Wow this one guy in particular blew himself up by accident. lol. How dumb."
No. They just wanted to represent the horrors, since its not known WHOSE explosion=KIA.
Keep in mind that a large chunk of those who served never saw any front-line action. There's a saying that goes something like "Warriors prepare for battle by thinking about tactics, generals prepare for battle by thinking about logistics"
every time my friends pose one of those how long would you survive x questions I'm like my brother in hypotheticals I'm a t1 diabetic I'm surviving like one week

The Pacific? Not for one second.
He worked in banking. His Victoria Cross was won during the Battle of Arnhem
At one point he was firing mortars from his hip at tanks.
You don't know how you'd act in war
I would have made it to episode 5.
Maybe, with shit tons of luck 🤠
Anyway, our group chat for watching it was called Band of Girlthers, cause it was mostly girls
bc I’d have probably been a like supply clerk or something
and then runs RIGHT into the house?
Me.
No firsthand source has ever claimed it was his own grenade, just "a" grenade.
Nor did he enlist at 16.

It's still one of the best series ever made. 👍
Its all i can think during that scene.
Captain sobel?
Or the almondine noodles with ketchup?
What a rare blunder in casting. Lt Rice deserved better.
Let me be working in the motor pool, come on. I'd be so good at driving trucks that could be blown up.
“Whelp, good thing I never considered joining the military.”
Also me: Fuuuuuuck that.
