I live around the corner from Rijnsburg. Not great to see the faux-historic style. Why not nice modern-looking housing like you see in Leidsche Rijn? It is a nice place to live though, close to the city center of Utrecht. Cycling paths, train, buses and even well connected by car.

What’s also great in the Netherlands, if you’re a first homebuyer, you get a fixed interest rate mortgage. Fixed for the whole time you’re paying your loan off.

Not only first home buyers. For any mortgage you can get fixed rates for 10,20 or 30 years.

Dear lord! What 'help' my state offered - they bought shares in my tiny apartment (because that's what you need to overpay for if you want a walkable neighbourhood), and I can buy it back at any time. At the current market value of the property! And it was still a good deal all things considered :(
