thanks for this jon. my high school library had a few of his novels in the early 80's, made a strong impression on my teenage brain. i hope you followed his advice and immediately began watching 3-4 hours of tv a day
Great interview, it's collected in his Extreme Metaphors collection of interviews, which is such a good book. What was he like as an interviewee? He comes across genial enough in the interview
Jesus Christ on a bike, that man was so ridiculously ahead of the curve. I've read most of his (even remember reading your interview on that site many yrs ago) but I really enjoyed Cocaine Nights and Super Cannes. I use 'Ballardian nightmare' way too frequently.
It's clear that you and he saw eye to eye on a lot of what he was trying to say. I think he was one of the few humans who could hold the complete picture of humanity, warts and all, in their minds. A very English genius.
