I read ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ at A Level and so avoided OMAM like the plague.

The one book I still cannot get on with since school is ‘The Lord of the Flies’.

I didn't really mind OMAM when I read it, so don't really understand why I developed an aversion to Steinbeck. I absolutely loved ' The Grapes of Wrath' though!

Perhaps it is because of needing to analyse every little detail that we lose sight of the plot?

Grapes of Wrath is quite useful in my Yr12 lessons so I’m growing fond of it!

Yes, I think you are probably right. It was a long time ago when I read it at school but I do remember having to dissect every last detail.

I loved The Grapes of Wrath too but I think it's one of the most heartbreaking books I've read! I've not read East of Eden yet - I must add it to my pile.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was expecting with 'The Grapes of Wrath' but I wasn't prepared for the way that it made me feel. I couldn't help drawing parallels with the modern narratives pushed by the right regarding immigration.
