He is an incredibly dedicated soldier & retired #ldnont police officer. He dedicated his life to serving his country & community. He was deployed to evacuate the Canadian embassy in Libya. His service led to severe PTSD. He needed medical assistance. Enter, this amazing medical device, Riggs. 2🧵

Riggs saved Andrew's life. But suddenly, Andrew's invisible disability wasn't so invisible anymore. And lo & behold, Andrew's career with the Canadian Armed Forces took a dramatic turn. For the next 4 years, his promotions stalled. He wasn't allowed to train with his platoon. 3🧵

Andrew was initially told he could not even parade with his colleagues in Ottawa. When challenged, they allowed him to parade: as long as he marched at the rear. When he stayed on base, he was placed in dirty rooms. When he needed medical accommodation, no meaningful work was provided to him. 4🧵

This is not about the money. This is about systemic change. This is about making sure the CAF implements training and ensures that internal systems to prevent this kind of discrimination are adequate and effective. 6🧵

I cannot describe the absolute honour it is to represent Andrew Gough. No one should be subject to discriminatory treatment because of a disability. And one that was the direct result of the very job he loved and dedicated himself to. 7🧵
