Sorry. I had a lot of thoughts jumping around in my mind and just wrote down one. Some more:
1. Americans usually care a lot about integrity. No warrantless search, no stop-and-frisk, etc.
2. This is inconsistent with public spy cameras.
3. USA accepts school shootings.
4. My model is invalid.

no expectation of privacy in public is actually something I care a lot about: it’s how you can film officers, or capture emergencies, etc. it’s about accountability more than anything.

Good point. I guess most European countries slice it a different way: you can film what you see, but you have to be there. You can't put up a camera and leave. Lots of exceptions, of course, but that's the gist of it. And it allows me to walk past your house without being AI-identified.

And I'm not trying to argue anything here, just trying to understand how perspectives differ and remind myself that I don't understand things half as well as I think sometimes.

yeah- security cameras are a little different (although there ARE laws on where they can overlook- basically not *into* private areas. for the most part). it’s a tricky balance for sure though.
