UPDATE: we have found a place for coo-coo, thank you all SO much!!! now we are looking for a home or temporary shelter for callie. the police have outright stated they will take the cats to the pound when they arrive, but have given us an ambiguous amount of time (up to a week?) to work with first.

it is!! we are trying to get some form of temporary accommodations in place for callie in the meantime, in the event of a worst case scenario. the police department is also supposedly trying to find a family for the cats, but we are not betting on that happening.

i've been encouraging my friend (who i posted this for, & have been doing some of the legwork for but i can only do so much as i am in the process of moving) to do so, but the problem is that both of us have very little to no money and that is much farther re: gas. i will check with her though

the other problem is that san diego is a very big city, much more prolific than where we live, and we've already been turned away from basically every shelter out here. it doesn't hurt to try, but we're still disheartened by our prospects in general irt shelters altogether.

Also try Los Angeles and Palm Springs. LA has both city and county shelters -- 2 different departments. You can do this on line, checking for their lists of approved rescues. If the cats end up going to the shelter, keep contacting the rescues to let them know the cats are there, needing rescue.

Yes. Partner rescues pull from the shelters. It's a huge source of the animals they have in rescues. The rescues that partner with shelter systems have to be legit: 501c status, etc. You can visit and ask staff and volunteers for recommendations on rescues.

we aren't sure either, unfortunately. we have no idea when the police are going to be there and what they're going to do; our current game plan is to essentially plead with them to let the cats stay until the apartment is properly cleaned out instead of removing them. but these are cops, so...

i really hope so too. we've tried calling a TON of shelters nearby and all of them have said they're at or over capacity, so we're a little desperate to find a place for these kitties, esp to honor the wishes of the late owner. the police moving in so soon really surprised us too, so we have NO time

Other places I can think of is checking with Best Friends (I know I went to their vet clinic when I was living in LA) who might have a location closer to the IE. Mary S Robert’s is another place, Animal Friends of the Valley (Wildomar/Lake Elsinore), and then the animal shelter in Moreno Valley
