the other problem is that san diego is a very big city, much more prolific than where we live, and we've already been turned away from basically every shelter out here. it doesn't hurt to try, but we're still disheartened by our prospects in general irt shelters altogether.

Also try Los Angeles and Palm Springs. LA has both city and county shelters -- 2 different departments. You can do this on line, checking for their lists of approved rescues. If the cats end up going to the shelter, keep contacting the rescues to let them know the cats are there, needing rescue.

are they able to take in animals that have already gone to the pound? that's good to know if that's the case, especially since from my memory the pound frequently marks disabled animals first for euthanasia. EXTREMELY good info, thank you so much!

Yes. Partner rescues pull from the shelters. It's a huge source of the animals they have in rescues. The rescues that partner with shelter systems have to be legit: 501c status, etc. You can visit and ask staff and volunteers for recommendations on rescues.

If you can find a shelter that will take them within a two hour drive, I can get them there. I can’t adopt them myself bc I can’t adopt another cat, but I live in the Riverside area

we aren't sure either, unfortunately. we have no idea when the police are going to be there and what they're going to do; our current game plan is to essentially plead with them to let the cats stay until the apartment is properly cleaned out instead of removing them. but these are cops, so...
