Childhood circumstances made me very aware of this part of our history and I remember being shocked when I got to college and many people knew nothing about it. The US has done a really good job of suppressing this and it is really troubling to think of how quickly history can be erased.

She was a bad ass lady at a time when women just didn’t do that. I still have some of the tree peonies she got as thanks when people returned.
