i've been struggling with my mental health for a couple of years. i mean, i've struggled with it for a very long time, but the last couple of years have felt like a building difficulty with Being. i found my identity and my purpose in the music i make, and i saw it revered and devalued.

i started to define myself based on my output, and not by my connection to that output. i immersed myself in commission and collaboration, and i am still struggling to make good on my promises. what started as the ONLY way for me to find peace morphed into an elephant sized to-do list in my room.

i'm starting to come out of a lengthy depression. it's still hard for me to do the most basic of things for myself, but i'm starting by tying up loose ends. i'm finishing an album, a soundtrack, and a handful of one-off collaborations. i'm so thankful for the patience everyone has shown me.

i found myself hanging on everything like it was going to get me out of the hood. every promise made to me from someone more traditionally successful consumed me, and one in particular fell through and knocked the wind out of me. it made me want to quit for a while, but i know that's not the answer.

the important takeaway for me was that that broken promise forced me to examine and reflect on the promises i've made. i am guilty of the same thing, and if it's so important to me, the best thing i can do is make good where others haven't.
