The town where I grew up had LOTS of these enormous ancient trees! I still love to go back just to drive around admiring them. This shot was in the "projects" (poor quarters) when I photo'd the town a few years ago. Nearly blocks out the whole bldg!

And a beech? The power of survival is strong. I found a yew about 4 inches high growing out of an oak bole. Straight out of a living oak tree, tapped into its sap system. Then some 'tidy' gardener culled it, I was heart broken at it's demise.

Cool tree! Strangely, the area around my workplace is full of unusual trees...hickorys, cedars, and sycamores along the river. I never see those anywhere else around here.
