It wouldn't be if future proofing was much of a thing at all on the CPU space. You have to upgrade really often so that a GPU upgrade wouldn't greatly benefit from a CPU upgrade.

I’m running a 12700k with DDR 3200 paired with a 3080. Do you think it’s wise to just prioritize a new GPU next year or should I look to rebuild entirely with one of the AMD 3D’s? I mostly target 1620p-4K 120fps max. Not looking for insane framerates for competitive FPS or anything.

it's amazing how often I am helping someone spec out an upgrade only to find out their cpu or gpu is already so wildly out of spec that they are leaving huge performance on the table to such a huge extent that they only actually need to upgrade one of them to get what they want.
