I have a pretty potato PC by today's standards (rtx2060 super) and it was running 60-70fps under medium settings with dlss set to quality. Absolutely playable and a good experience.

...proves to true with testing then I would want to highlight a game that does things well at launch. Far too many games launch on PC with incredibly obvious issues, even from billion dollar franchises. If a small team can manage it while a larger cannot, something is wrong in the industry for sure.

I think part of it is just using cryengine and not stretching their team by trying to do anything too advanced such as raytracing etc which might hammer the CPU

Of course something is wrong with the industry, when investors are making money not from games, but from financial mechanism. That's the reason why games are in such poor state.

Alex can you do an Unreal Engine showcase of sorts? You could put the HUGE(kidding) number of games that make competent use of Unreal Engine 4 on display along with the ones that are so obviously badly done that they shouldn't have even been released in the form they were.

I'm seeing a lot of people comparing this game to Alan Wake 2, for example, saying Alan Wake 2 is unoptimized. Except, Alan Wake 2 pushes visuals far higher than KC2. I'm afraid for what this kind of thinking means for the future of graphics tech.

Just let the customer be your beta tester, boom, money saved, shareholders happy.
Even better, let the customers pay a premium for that "privilege" and call it Early Access.

Plus they use cry engine, which is not very common these days anymore. But it seems to scale very good for older hardware, it looks pretty good even on lowest settings on Steam Deck (@30 - 40 fps, native without upscaling)

I've seen Daniel Owen running it on a GTX 1060 at nearly 60fps at 1080p on low settings. It's nice to see CryEngine still flexing it's muscles

I played for about 5 hours yesterday. The game switched all the settings to Ultra by default (7800X3D, 32Gb DDR5 6000, RTX 4070 Super). Dunno what the Experimental setting stands for but so far this is the smoothest gaming experience I've had in this UE5 stutter-era. We need more in-house engines🥲

I watched Gophers stream yesterday, the Experimental Mode mayyyybe adds a little more fidelity to the textures but it was making his rig chug hard (of course, while streaming) for not much visual improvement.

From seeing some of the gameplay I would've been very surprised if this game didn't run well without insane specs on your pc. Graphics on ultra looks... ok? Certainly would not say it looks "good" in comparison to other games nowadays.

Yeah it's running pretty well for me, I'm using the medium preset since that's what the devs recommended for 1080p 60 and I'm also using dlss even tho my hardware could probably run it on native just fine, waiting for your optimized settings.

So, I guess my question for you on a video would be: What exactly is the experimental setting doing? Is it extending out everything already there or is there anything else unique about it. IE: KCD 1, on the 'experimental' setting, you got dynamic indoor shadow casting.
