11/ investing wisely is probably the area we need to do the most work in. I have some of my retirement funds in a Social Choice Equity fund, but could probably put more there.

10/ when we go for walks in non-snowy weather, I always carry a plastic bag to pick up litter. Sadly, it always gets filled. Happily, that’s one less bag of trash in our streets and heading for the Mississippi River.

9/ my yard is increasingly native, pollinator-friendly plants. I paid full price for some plants but have also gratefully received seeds from seed libraries, friends, and acquaintances. It’s a slow process but I love seeing the change and others compliment us on our garden.

8/ do our best to use up our food. Having an extra freezer in our basement (privilege) helps a lot. We cook from scratch a lot too. Scraps make great stock, I save them in a freezer bag until I’m ready to make some.

7/ eat a vegetarian/vegan diet. Veg options are increasingly available, tasty, and easy. Beyond, Impossible, and Morningstar are all good brands. If you can’t or don’t want to go fully veg, please don’t let it stop you from reducing your meat intake.

6/ shop less, and when buying, buy secondhand or when buying new, pay more for more durable items (also privilege). Mend and fix what’s fixable. Don’t worry about fashion 😂

5/ reduce our travel, both of us work from home (a privilege) and drive the EV on longer trips where possible

4/ drive an EV. We only have one car for our family of 4 and we drive a Chevy Equinox EV. Good car and no emissions! Also almost no maintenance!

3/ live near the light rail and use it as possible, also biking when possible. We could improve this but we live in MN and are a bit wimpy about cold weather

2/ bought into community solar and wind farms years ago, and recently had solar panels installed on our garage roof (only roof that works on our old, shaded house)

1/ moderate how much we heat and cool our house, wearing sweaters and using more blankets etc.
All lights are LED bulbs
As appliances fail we are replacing them with the most energy efficient ones
