I feel like im the only one that remembers the whole fighting among tapas users and staff over them pushing slice of life 4 panel strip comics and belittling story ones. Constantly going on how that was the future. They sure have changed that tune huh

and with webtoons came the pressure to have lengthy constant updates at the expense of the artist and a marketable "style" among them. Webcomics stopped being about the pursue of a story or idea [even with strip comics] and a race to be the next one to get a tv deal and that really upsets me

and im not saying all webcomics fall into this or webtoons for that matter. There are webtoons I enjoy, ones that I work for and see the passion behind them. But it'd be ignorant to say there isn't a pattern among everything and a dramatic shift from what webcomics were like just a decade ago.

webcomics is still a baby medium that hasnt found its voice or place among a bigger medium that it basically in its teenage years compared to film and prose. There is not set way to do them and there shouldnt be. And I think we forget that as a collective whole.

I dont think we'll ever go back to how things were but I doubt things will stay the same as they are now either. Esp with a lot of uproar from these creators that have been burned over it all. Things will change and fluctuate and Im just curious what will happen next.

I remember because I've only really done stories and have troubles doing short. But I just kept going along. I do wish readers no would be a little more understanding that not all of us have a team of people helping them and are just 1 person sitting at a desk, or whatever they have to make a desk.

Hell, even when Webtoon first started out in the US the expectation was different. There was way more opportunity to succeed. Nowadays, they keep adapting webnovels into comics instead of just platforming original comics that already are being made.

It's like how Hollywood (namely Disney) keeps making live-action remakes, spin-offs/sequels, etc. of popular franchises instead of making new shit.

Webtoon artist here! I agree lots with what's been said, but I must add that seasons and season breaks feels like the right way to go to organise your story and keep going, at least it keeps my head clear.
The real mess is the weekly updates expectations for no money

That's what I mean! If you can't do weekly, you shouldn't have to do weekly! No webcomic has the hordes of people a TV show does!
