Me too but alas just retirement. I’ve seen a few people leave that way, Mistress Darcy being another shocking one a few years back. Just changed her website to say ‘I hope it meant as much to you as it did to me.’

I think it depends -- for some people, it might be just realizing that they've achieved what they want to achieve, and deciding it's time for a change. For others, yes, if they're forced onto a new path that they didn't choose.
