But I follow the news, studied race and politics in college…if I can’t put my finger on it, that seems like a problem. The biggest policy impact I associate with dems is the crime bill under Clinton, which made syst racism worse. The biggest wins I think of is nominating Obama and then Kamala

It feels like being the party of “mostly not making things worse, unlike the other side” isnt all that inspiring. Big talk and small action is a recipe for disillusionment. Plus, I don’t think engaging in / winning the culture war of words n ideals is as important to as many black ppl as dems think

If you count Obama and Kamala as wins i would throw in Ketanji Brown Jackson being appointed to scj. Plus the 60 black judges Biden has appointed to lifetime appointments in the federal courts. Great but to your point not policy!

That matters to me, but I don’t know that wins for the collective resonate for everyone, or even most. It’s a luxury, like saving for retirement. Speaking directly to individual self-interest is the part of what makes trumpism so effective. I dont know if black appointments do that for most

Agreed! I liked the Harris agenda for Black Men. I think she struck a balance of policies that would help all Americans but then framing it as things that will address issues that disproportionately impact Black men. Is that too “a rising tide lifts all boats” though? Is it enough for the undecided?

Had to re-check her platform - but ur right, there’s good stuff in there. I think these are the types of things that matter to black male swing voters AFTER that money hits. Campaigning vs governing. Stop tellin me I’m oppressed, start tellin me I’m right lol

I think I agree there hasnt been a major racial justice policy win. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act is waiting on the sidelines for whenever dems come back into a majority but aside from that im not sure what it would be. Weed decriminalization is also on the horizon?

It’s gotta be something with obvious material impact on black lives that can fit under a platform that comes across as non-culture war. There’s gotta be something passed every dem presidency for “the party of racial justice” stuff not to ring hollow. “Remember 1964” can’t last forever
