So here's something I'm really impressed by: I put this preprint out just about a year ago. Three or four others came out about the same time, saying a) we know authors are using LLMs a lot, b) it's really obvious from word choice; c) no, *really* obvious.
What happened next? Well...

I have a preprint out! Evidence for extensive appearance of chatGPT/LLM derived text in scholarly papers, signalled by particular words that mysteriously became a lot more popular in 2023 - eg "commendable". I estimate upwards of 60,000 papers last year (and accelerating) arxiv.org/abs/2403.16887
