I had been a fan of Final Fantasy since Mystic Quest and was really interested in playing a real MMO since playing Phantasy Star Online and Well of Souls, but didn't have access to a PC capable running any. When FFXI was announced for PS2, it seemed like a perfect game for me.

I ended up grabbing the Brady Games strategy guide a year before the PS2 version would even be complete, and I remember reading it from cover to cover, taking in all the information I could so I could be ready to play it when it finally came out.

Before it released, I already had what I wanted to do; I wanted to be a THF/SAM and use a Beestinger (blame the guide). I picked up every gaming mag that even mentioned FFXI on the cover.

I was in love with Final Fantasy XI before I ever put the install disc in my PS2.
