The wings covering the eyes would usually give the idea of ignorance, although the addition of the eyes that dot Illumina’s body being open and focused on Zuka kind of turns it on its head.

Personally I see it as being symbolic for deception- the illusion of being “vulnerable”- by covering his face and cutting off one of his senses around the other, when in reality he has him in his sights and his grasp.

Zuka’s glowing eyes + the lines below his eyes lines up with the fandom’s depiction of Illumina’s followers, although lacking in other characteristics (ie, spiked horns and purple color).

Reasons could be 1: it is supposed to represent his awareness of the aforementioned deception yet still “playing along”, 2: it’s supposed to be an implied narrative that he is only somewhat indoctrinated/in the process of being converted, or 3: he’s attempting to be detached and unaffected by-
