I would argue the Steam Deck is the PC equivalent of Nintendo's Switch and direct competitor, especially if you really want your 3rd party Triple-AAA gaming on the go.

In essence, but there's much more friction to docking the Steam Deck than the seamless way the Switch connects to and disconnects from a TV. Steam Deck feels more like it's primarily a handheld that you can connect to a TV if you really want to, with some effort, additional expense, and tweaking.
And I still don't consider it a competitor per se, because you can play many PC games on the Switch, but you can only (legally) play Switch games on a Nintendo console.
this is only true if you think the Switch was the first handheld gaming system (it wasn't)
The Switch's innovation was the modular design and two performance levels based on whether it's docked or not. Neither of these apply to the Steam Deck

the biggest innovation the switch has is the Joycons, really
It also doesn't come with a dock or detachable controller. By the time you've got those included it's almost double the cost of the Switch.
For the record I own both. That's just how I see them.
