Houston TX was built first as a walkable city. Then the automobile was invented and they rebuilt the city to look stupid.

if we had a vote today I'd vote to rip out the motorway/do a big dig so I can walk to the shops without being second priority to people driving to the airport

What’s so frustrating is Pōneke has the highest use of public transport, walking a cycling in the country. Rongotai has highest percentage of people commuting by bike of any electorate. So the roads being clogged with cars is partly (mostly?) people who don’t live here and who we have to subsidise.

In short I’m heavily in favour of congestion charging to push the financial burden to the people who insist on driving.

(And before anyone butts in, yes I know some people need to drive, tradies are a thing, etc. But that lawyer doesn’t need to drive their F150 from Silverstream every day)
