With the combination of unwillingness to speak and joy in witnessing “calling-out” I am also REALLY concerned about whether students are leaving prepared to primarily engage as citizens by way of anonymous report, informing, and denouncing.

This chimes so hard with my experience in the UK! Both the lack of true literacy of ideas, and the fear and shame at that adding to the poor attendance and behavior. Felt like a product of 2010s schools policies - attitude of "this what you need to know to pass" totally embedded as what learning is

Not to criticize, but I feel bad for the minority of honest, self-motivated students in his class had to hear this prof stand up in meeting mode & hear him say “I just can’t trust you anymore”. Besides the point somewhat, I realize.

It’s hard, but at the same time, his course (and I’d say, college in general) is about how you belong to a collective. If you are an honest, self-motivated student, that’s not going to be enough to save you from crumbling institutions.

I think key here as well is that he gave them a chance to do something about it, and even many of the “good” students chose to get their points and check out instead.
