The drugs didn’t work before the surgery so I don’t see why they’d work now. They’ll still try it, likely because although inflamed, it’s a lot less tissue like that, so I’ll go through several different treatments until we establish they don’t really help and then the Barbie bottom surgery 👌

This is the same course I went through. We tried a few Hail Mary therapies and nothing was working. Post-colectomy Diversion Colitis won, and now I have the Barbie body I never really asked for! But, I have my life back.
I do hope for the best outcome for you.

Yeah, I’m almost in the mindset of let’s just get it done. What is the most deflating is that I thought I was doing fine.

I think that’s the most deflating part of it. You can be okay and under the assumption that a flare is behind you and feeling optimistic, and within hours it starts again. It took a 10 day visit to the ICU to make me accept my fate. Glad I finallly did, though.

Somewhat related to your anniversary–do you do any work related to IBD and colostomy? …since this all started for me, it did cross my mind quite a few times how lucky we area in the UK relative to not just the countries RTSL operates in, but Serbia (👋) and the US too with the health system there.

To be honest, no. I've spent years working pretty specifically on hypertension and diabetes management and now am working more broadly on primary care delivery, but the key focus areas there are things like maternal and child health, HIV, TB, malaria, reproductive health, hypertension, and diabetes.
