Lots of reverse culture shock during the blizzard today. After living for years on the border of Snow County in Japan, I got used to: when it snows, everyone is out early to shovel, to pour water on the snow, rinse and repeat until the storm stops.

On the east coast of the US, we wait until the storm is over before mostly sending our dads and teenagers out to shovel.
So this morning I was the only one on my block out at 7, clearing the sidewalk. Funny because I groaned about how I missed quiet, lazy snow days when I lived in Japan.
Also: Pouring water over snow works wonders for clearing it away pretty effortlessly, including ice. Not sure why we don't do this where I live. Salt is both harmful and ineffective.
