obligatory yet friendly reminder that webp at quality 100 is *not* equivalent to lossless mode, you'd want to specify `-define webp:lossless=true` if you're doing true pixel-perfect archival storage conversions

ok so "webpinfo" says both files have been encoded using lossless compression, but are you saying that 100% quality in imagemagick will cause data loss before the lossless compression kicks in?

the output seems to be identical in both cases with imagemagick 6 (ugh ubuntu still doesn't have IM7, i'll need to update the guide for linux a bit)

yeah sorry for the goose chase, i did the same thing. cwebp with z 9 gives the slightest bit smaller output but it takes over 10x as long to run so now i'm trying to remember why i have cwebp installed in the first place 😅

no worries 😂 yeah i mean there was a time IM didnt support WebP and i think i just have the google webp binaries still installed from then...

huh, i can't find any documentation about it. looks like q 100 gives identical outputs with or without lossless=true, which is explicitly not the behavior of cwebp. it looks like lossless=true makes q change the equivalent of the z flag in cwebp, because i get larger files. i guess i was wrong here!

ahhhh i see, yeah i've almost never used cwebp or dwebp, just webpinfo. it's a good idea to link to the imagemagick webp options page though!
