Wow. On Nov. 5th, Threads had five times more daily active users in the US than Bluesky.

Now, Threads is only 1.5 times larger.

People forget how integral Zuckerberg/Facebook was in electing Trump in 2016. It seems more like a political decision to by Zuck to allow TwitterX to control the news feed & influence election.

Yes! I don’t know why they didn’t see it. I still visit Threads because it has a good community of people that share my hobbies, but BlueSky seems to be the Twitter replacement I’ve been waiting for

Threads hit critical mass really quickly, as I recall (fastest ever I think) but people didn't stick. Here I think we're still in exploration phase where clearly there's so much interest in a less toxic communal place, and hopefully this will remain interesting and diverse enough to sustain.

They want to see the content and people they choose, not what is forced on them be the company.

The first change Threads did was to address this because they know that users merely tolerate it.

With network externalities, first mover position is enormously important. Twitter had an entrenched position, but Musk blew it up because he did not, does not, and will not understand the business model. His ego and self-destructive behavior get in the way.

As you say Meta misunderstood where the network externalities originate. People want a platform with excellent security control to censor trolling, instantaneous posting and viewing of comments, and news and other feeds. Bluesky executed a basic business tenet: listen to your users.

As for X, IMO Musk is on the verge of losing his entire investment. He is now at peak influence. His combined holdings of Tesla and bitcoins are a massive speculative bubble which cannot be sustained. The collapse of X will hasten the inevitable burst.

What matters is who I find posting here. On BlueSky I find many of the people that attracted me to Twitter 15 years ago, and few of those that made me leave twitter 5 years ago. Smart, knowledgeable, thoughtful people I can learn from. No Nazis.

Dumped Threads and Insta - trying to convince myself to be done with F'book. Hated so many things about Threads. Mostly with the scattershot way I saw posts. No linear timeline, tying itself in knots keeping people from info they wanted and pretending it was not biased. Won't be going back.

Keep your pants on. Activity spikes around the time of big new user influx but inevitably cools off as those new users ‘settle in’ having built their new follow lists etc.

Hopefully we reach a self sustaining level.

I just got flagged by Twitter when I posted something about Pete Hegseth, nothing profane, but simply providing a summary and link to his police report. They've throttled my account. You also can't report mis or disinformation there any longer. There is no option for that in the reporting procedure.
