My background is that I grew up in a disadvantaged council estate in North Sheffield, and education was my gateway to a wealth of cultural capital and economic stability. It’s been my constant moral purpose to pass that baton on to the young people in my care.

I’ve primarily worked in disadvantaged contexts across my career. I believe that the key to social mobility is a set of good grades backed up with character and cultural capital, and I’m lucky to be in a position to work to make that a reality for so many young people.

Other points: my specialism is Maths and Computing - in fact, my degree is in Engineering, so I tend to see lots of things in a systematic way. That said, I am a humanities geek…
