Curious your thoughts on if the parallels between politics and pro wrestling have gotten stronger or if it has sort of been this way for the last 40 years but is a little more on the nose now?
When we were kids, wrestling really just aped the jingoism of the late Cold War. Hulk Hogan built his whole career being the "American Hero" who fight Iranians and Iraqis (literally!). Now the flow is reversed, and politics draws from the well of like late 90s wrestling culture. -OS
As someone who was exposed to wrestling well before being really aware of politics it does seem that the most effective political messaging really does draw from the presentation style of wrestling.
