I still believe that updates to media should be included in the printing the day after it goes live. A lot of modern games have updates that range from QoL to full content expansions that can’t be accessed if you don’t have an online connection
They work hand-in-hand for me. Streaming for discovery and casual viewing, Blu-ray / 4K Blu-ray for everything I love or think I will love (can always take chances on physical titles and sell later if they’re not my thing.)
Real. That's whare I am with it. I'm slowly building my DVD/Blu-ray collections especially tracking down the movies I grew up watching cus I have a connection to them same goes with Video Games
Perfect. Curation is quite important. Collect the things that speak to you. I mean, that’s what collecting is, isn’t it? Who collects things they don’t like? (Tho I know a few movie collectors and I do wonder sometimes 😀). Ah, there’s no rules… apart from don’t spend what you don’t have.
GOG is a thing (and the pc storefront i am most invested in)but drm isnt just steam its a publisher thing and the moment when devices have no means of playing physical media, when there is no other alternative (and it is a matter of when not if) DRM will be on everything.
1. That's a phisical version
2. You could technically do infinite Digital copies copies of all three of those games indipendently from Nintendo, and even specifically 3d all stars
Im not sure how it counts as drm. Its more a voluntary removal from the store.unless you mean how, like all console games,it’s only playable on their systems with an account the game is registered to.
Physical, and digital were time limited. Digital is no longer available to legally buy. So the physical copies are going for high prices. For some reason Nintendo limited sales of both. They could still be selling digital, with their DRM and make money. Instead, the physical sellers are..
Physical rarely means anything nowadays. You own a licence for the game. If you're lucky the whole game will be on the disc/cartridge. But often times only part of the game will be there (see spyro reignited) or it needs a massive patch to function/wrong version was shipped (see BDSP)
you dont rly own physical copies these days either, basically anything comes with a day one patch and you can never play them out the box, simply not the times anymore, but honestly, who tf would care to take your user license away from u, what would be the point, there are rules 2 it as well.
While yeah most of my library on my switch is digital I have bought a few physical games mainly cuz the cheaper price and like I’m honestly gonna keep buying physical when I can unless it’s literally a game I need to play at launch at midnight right that second lol
Then rip it! Use your software on your own terms however you please! As long as you aren't sharing it, you do no wrong. (Still technically not allowed, but who cares?)
The only way to preserve something that is on physical media forever is to rip it, and regularly back up the data to new storage media. Any single physical medium will eventually succumb to entropy.

Digital+DRM free Is the way to go of you actually care about preservation if you ask me
