In eight years of catholic school I learned that there are people who will love you and care for you even if they don’t have to. I learned self sacrifice was a virtue. Kindness mattered. Maybe your catholic school taught that other crap.

I didn't go to religious school, but I learned about compassion, self sacrifice, caring for your fellow humans and kindness at home from family and from my peers. I didn't grow up in the US. The religious schools around where I live seem to teach the other stuff.
I appreciate this . I just need to say that my experience was not that way. They showed us movies about racism as early as I can remember. My nuns marched in the civil rights movement. I learned to care . My childhood was lacking at best.
Maybe catholic schools still do that, I sure hope they do. I'm in Georgia, mostly surrounded by evangelicals who can't wait to tell me to go back to where I came from. Been in the US for 34 years and this is the first year I started wondering if they're right.
