This is insanely good, you did a fantastic job! I don't think I got to join Selmers at the Poetry Session on my first playthrough, but God do I miss chatting with her day in and day out.
π΅ I want something much more different
Not these factories and prisons
I wish that the earth was green again
I wish I had a gun in my hand
Someday I will come back in from the cold
Someday I will come back in from the cold
Someday I will come back in from the cold
And shatter all these industries πΆ
To have spoken to Selmers each day the first time I played the game with her silly poems and then she comes out swinging with this one was such a delight. Both Mae and the player would be thrown off guard with it
All the anti-DEI bullshit and so on are all just distractions to keep the peasants fighting amongst themselves. So long as you don't realize that this is about class, they're fine. βπΌ
It's been a while since I played NitW. And I'm trying to work out if the radio tower was on the skyline in game or if it's a sneaky Welcome to Night Vale reference.
When I made this I made a moodboard of settings from the game to get the colors right, and i think the radio tower does appear in game, but less prominently. It does strongly resemble Nightvale imagery, though!
I had no idea! What's more crazy, I heard this poem (song?) recently without knowing anything about it. Now I happen to connect them all together in a random BSky post. Thank you!
Thank you! That means a lot. I spent a while trying to directly reference the gameβs colors, as their art designer had a lot more color theory chops than I did
The mention of the current state of Appalachia makes me think someone needs to write a parody of Country Roads about how capitalism is causing those beautiful country roads to fade into yet another highway, another shopping center, another billionaire's private estate.
A bit of a tangent on this, but it reminds me of how in Fallout 76 the ultra-rich decided to build sky-high mega-mansions above the clouds of soot and dust in the ash heap instead of addressing the problem itself. Why try to solve a problem when you can afford to build another fence and ignore it?
76 honestly has a lot to say, in the world building, and is how I learned of the Blair Mountain battle by googling for quest info & finding the real one instead
"Country roads, where'd you go?
Where was the creek, now 9 lanes flow.
West Virginia, won't someone pick up?
But no one's home, on those country roads"
Youβre referencing nature-destroying industry, but Possum Springs is a town dying because their destructive mining industry has left. Many of the citizens grieve for a time where they were actively destroying their land, but were at least employed to do it.
Thereβs certainly an interesting environmental angle here, though. Iβm sure the citizens would have preferred to have jobs that didnβt destroy the place they love, but at the end of the day they need to earn the means to live .
Weirdly I discovered it first through a Letβs Play many years ago before I had any kind of console or pc, and really fell in love with it. Couldnβt agree more.

Agricultural region, with dying rural towns & grand resorts fading away

Something something something I'm not sure how to finish this line.
Did not realise it was Appalachia at the time
Just wanted to share this excellent reading!
