My feeling is, that most of the world will punch below the waist, cut off as much as they can from trading with the USA, and trade their products elsewhere.

Well – it’s already happening. What do you think? Trade relies on trust and predictability - qualities that, right now, only Russia seems to see in the USA. Europe is shifting its markets increasingly toward Asia, and Canada is actively seeking new, reliable partners.

Yep - I've seen that too - they think they are fine without coffee and bananas. Or medicines. They think that they can produce everything they need within 12 months. So best to let them try it, and decouple from the US totally. Put them in quarantine until their self-inflicted nightmare is over.

American exceptionalism runs deep, with origins in ideas of the frontiersman — who had to kill his neighbours (indigenous peoples), lost several children to communicable diseases now curable, and died young due to the late discovery of antibiotics. It's a religious proposition not prone to logic.
