It's ridiculous there's no direct train connection from Katowice to the airport. From Racibórz you have to get 4 trains. Normally, I'd get a taxi from Katowice, but today, we decided to use the train all the way. The plus it that the whole journey is only 35zł each, saving over 80zł (train+Uber).🚆 - ThreadSky

This is interesting as we're planning an Interrail trip round the whole of Poland soon. I've heard the trains can be a bit erratic?

Yeah, I would agree. 😅
However, from my experience, trains in Poland are better than in the UK in terms of punctuality. The connections between cities are good, and if trains are delayed, a connection train will most likely wait. My criticism of Polish trains is the lack of frequency.

Yes, I'm looking at booking atm and they are not frequent at all. 🙃 We would like to visit some of the out of the way war related stuff, and I haven't really started yet, but it seems a nightmare. I've planned Europe rail trips before, but nothing like this experience!

I think over time, it will get better as they want to build a high-speed rail system in 8 years' time. For stuff to see, there's obviously Auschwitz, but I've never been. I'd recommend the WW2 museum in Gdańsk. For planning, I'd recommend the koleo app as you can see all train times, connections etc

Thanks for that, I'll take a look. I have Auschwitz, the Lair and the museum in Gdansk on the list.
I've just had to abandon Tarkowskie Gory, (the Silver Mine & caves) due to lack of trains & access. Shame, but we'll get more time in Wroclaw & Katowice.

No problem. Out of those three, I've only done the museum in Gdańsk. If you like history, there's another museum in Gdańsk shipyard about Solidarność (the movement that ended communism). That's a shame, but Tarnowskie Góry was a lot easier to get to than I thought, having changed there today.

Katowice Airport station is nice and only a short walk to the terminals. However, it's not that busy due to the lack of trains that come through here. If there were direct connections from Katowice, I would expect the station to be busier. Most opt for taxis as a result. 🇵🇱🛩🚉
