OFGEN is completely unfit for purpose. #miliband’s number 1 priority should be to scrap the whole structure and rebuild it in a way that genuinely works to help the environment and the consumer.
The energy 'price cap' is no such thing: just an industry statement of what energy costs. Spoiler: it'll go up a bit more next quarter before dropping a bit in summer.
Taking the piss. How can they get away with this? They are making an absolute fortune and still it’s not enough. All whilst a lot of people are having to chose between heat or eat. 😡
It has in recent years. The overall price is lower than last year and the year before which is good news, however, it is still much higher than it was 10 years ago and maybe it is built in at this level now
Who’s this Mr Average who only pays £1,717?
I’m in a 3 person household & I pay hundreds more than that. I’d need to turn the heating off to get down to Mr average.
There really must be a lot of folk already cutting back massively if that average is realistic.
Stand by for more headlines about massive profits for the energy companies, massive bonuses for their boards and an uptake in people being taken to court because they cannot afford to pay their bills. It’s like the Tories are still in charge 🤷🏻♀️
Not sure the Labour claim that establishing a nationalised green energy company would reduce bills by 2030 was meant as a promise to immediately issue £300 cheques to all households, but your reply was snappier.
How much will bills actually increase between now and then. How much do you think 300 quid will be worth pro rata on those bills 5 years from now? There's no reductions here - ever!
I'm no expert but would assume the £300 estimate is based on current value, so about 15-20% savings compared to not starting a publicly owned supplier. Not much else Government can do in a privatised industry, except dole out cash to compensate?
GB Energy will not be an energy supplier never mind a green one. Not much they can do? they're the government - they could re-nationalise life necessities.
Try being off grid on bottled gas. Mine goes up every time I order. Up from £55 a bottle 3 years ago to just shy of £90 now. No price cap for us. Hostages to Calor
I could be wrong, but I reckon it is possible to undertake a study that shows a positive correlation between political donations and beneficial policy, i.e. reward for payment. Everything else is just semantics.
Ecotricity is a business that is founded around the generation of green electricity. Their owner is a renowned supporter of green initiatives.
The company has been in existence for almost 20 years.
Why do we accept continually being left out to dry by a Government who put corporate profit above the protection of their people. Banks, supermarkets, water and energy companies exploit the people and the government does as nothing.
Look at the graph it shows the price cap is now lower (10%) the the same pierid 12 months ago. Also Direct debits are averaged over 12 months so bills are artificially lower over the higher use period. Like the majority my energy cost has fallen in 2024 compared with 2023.
Is it not time that this useless and incompetent toothless so called regulator was replaced by something that protects the domestic and commercial sectors, not the shareholders?
The energy "watchdog"? All watch, neither bark nor bite.
Ask the question: wholesale prices are way down from peak when prices shot up re Ukraine/Covid. Did you notice prices going down since?
This is disgusting! Meanwhile petrol and diesel prices are lower, we were previously gaslighted that those markets are linked 🤔 I'm not complaining about cheaper vehicle fuel obviously, just fed up of us all being robbed whilst big companies making mega profits 😞🤬
In the last year my energy prices rose from £350 to £450 per month. My supplier has emailed me twice in that period letting me know it will decrease and it never has. When I lived in spain it cost me £35 per month.
Hard to tell who is most at fault... A regulator that thinks the behaviour of the energy companies is ok and enables them, or the energy companies that have seen an opportunity to make massive profits and massive bonuses and share scheme profits for their directors?

Just in time for winter when we are using our heating more.
It's almost like they're purposely fucking us over
"OFGEM, if you can hear me, - is the Man from the Oil & Gas Lobby holding a Gun to your Head to make you allow these Stupidly high Prices ... ?"
"Tap Once for 'No', and Twice for 'Yes' ..."

There are pensioners right on the cusp who are being let down, they are the ones that need assistance.
They have a clear majority, so use it as a mandate and yes, tweak the criteria.
@martinlewismse.bsky.social gave some excellent suggestions the day it was announced, implement them.
Still waiting on that 😉

Grovelling Starmer fan boys whinging about libel are just as pathetic as MAGA scum claiming Trump not being a rapist.
Starmer is a crook.
