I'm gobsmacked Peter that the repeal of these laws was not retrospective. As an Australian, I'd not heard of these previously but listening to you here, I think the term 'Draconian" could be used legitimately in this instance.

Omg. I remember this being repealed but had no idea that didn’t include people already sentenced. That’s horrific. There’s no way it should ever have been used for petty crimes anyway! Just releasing them isn’t going to work either, they’ll need so much support to readjust.

Yes, I listened to this very educational 2 part drama recently and was really angry that there are hundreds of prisoners still serving this type of sentence. Caught in a Catch 22 style merry-go-round.
