It has, and it’s a welcome start. But this announcement is mainly about capital funding, whereas sustainable revenue funding is the only thing that will safeguard the future of #hospices
I wonder if that will be enough to convince people that Streeting isn’t up to his balls in making deals with private healthcare/end of life firms? To whom will this money be awarded? Private firms or increasing salaries for existing medical staff? 🤔 I don’t trust him for one minute…
Could not agree with you more!!!! And penalties for avoiding full disclosure about who, how much and background checks. No more oh, I'm so sorry I forgot about declaring who paid me several million pounds. It won't wash.
Who owns the hospices? Are they pushing money through a service offshore to themselves and their mates like with the hotels? Where is all the money going?
Much, much needed for a community of organisations that performs heroic work where the words dignity and kindness are everywhere. Lovely to see this today and here's hoping this funding filters through to everyone.
As I understand it, this money is for capital spending but the hospices are struggling with everyday costs. As an aside why is end of life care & support for life limiting conditions reliant on charities?
This is definitely a step in the right direction. Hospices have had to rely on charitable donations for too long! They do an amazing job and personally, it’s my opinion, that they should be 100% funded by the government.
End of life care funding definitely needs reviewing. But hospices have resisted becoming part of the NHS for decades to retain control so it isn't straightforward
" an early Christmas present", really? Who writes this rubbish, it's so smug. Maybe try "a belated recognition of a chronically underfunded essential resource"
