I suspect Starmer is hesitating because what the EU is proposing includes EU students paying home fees to study in the UK. Those fees are below what it costs to teach a student and are already causing financial problems for Unis.

Not really. The EU did fund a lot of research, but teaching is supposed to be funded from student fees and they have not kept pace with inflation. The only answer is the UK tax payer shouldering more of the cost or putting fees up.

So so disappointed in Labour. The quickest way to accelerate growth is to make up with our largest and nearest trading partners … Europe. Brexit has been a disaster in every possible way and it’s time the decision was reversed for all our sakes. If the EU would have us back of course 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wasn't Yvette Cooper spinning the youth mobility scheme as immigration? That's what I heard. (Sky interview, I think). A pity the Labour 'elite' can't apply this imagination to "serving working people"; I'd add retired workers and the unemployable to that too, for my own sake.

Would it count as “migration” though given that its only till that person reaches the age of 30 at a maximum and is only proposed as being for a 3 year period anyway. If it was reclassified as reciprocal migration or temporary migration then surely it wouldn’t break a red line, merely bend it a bit.
