The memories of the First & Second World Wars are still raw and recent for German people. Nazi aggression and rule will never be forgotten by Germany & Austria and the countries they occupied. I can well understand Christoph Heusgen's distress. We must stop any repetition.

Yes, we missed America being a force for good on the World stage during Trump's first term, and you are of course completely absent now, but I do not believe that this absence will be at all permanent, - you WILL be back, and we'll be ready to welcome you again, when you are !

I am a proud European
My adult life since my late teens has been in US & UK BUT I’m European first & foremost
No Vance or Trump attacks our values nor does a Musk dictate the responsibility we as Germans/Austrians feel for our history

Germany & the UK have been helping Israel to destroy the rules based order in recent years!
They would happily gloat about any other nation's misfortune and we all know that.
Europe now needs to play its card right.
Keep one thing in mind: just like with the Nazis and Germany, this time around, it's the US and Russia, they hate each other.
There is also a relationship with China that needs to be leveraged.
