Imagine there are 2 buckets in front of you. 1 is labelled reality, the other hope. When we're overwhelmed & our flight, fight, freeze or fawn system is triggered our instincts tell us to hope. Hitler was made Chancellor on the 30th January 1933. By March of that year he had swept away the laws of the Weimar Republic. It took 53 days. I put it to you that Trump wants to do the same in the same time to The US Constitution. The evidence against this isn't overwhelming. But it should be.

Our gov't is invested in hope. They have to be. Mandelson is arranging our payments. Our gov't is at stage 1. With time either the US or the UK or other gov'ts will move to stage 2. Eventually we will arrive at stage 3. I think we should already be at stage 3. Probably why I'm not a politician

Agreed. We should have told Trump on Monday - go away. But, we need to purchase time. Our gov't also needs to demonstrate that it has made every effort. We do need a concensus from all UK citizens which broadly has moved from "hope" to acceptance of the reality. Trump's holding Europe hostage
