I can’t figure KS out. There are undoubtedly aspects of Britain that need a complete overhaul, e.g. taxation, and NHS inefficiency needs addressing too. New Labour dabbled there but no cigar. But genuflecting to Establishment and not getting rich to shoulder the burden is surely a mistake.

The usual suspects lobbying to get their way. There are planning procedures and restrictions in place for a reason! Most housing developments being built do not consider the impact on the local infrastructure. More cut-backs in schools, hospitals, road improvements, and maintenance won’t help.

Because the thatcher government set up a system that sold council houses with a discount to their occupiers but disallowed the council's from reinvesting that money in housing stock and all governments since have refused to build homes for whatever reasons

Will they be building the necessary infrastructure to go with it though. It's no good building houses if there's no local shops, school, GP surgery and public transport links. And environmental considerations are important.

It appears that developers are made to pay into an environment pot, to pay for environmental projects. Schools etc. Should be part of any plan, imho.

I lived in Cardiff for a while. Developers were very good at wriggling out of their obligations. One community who were told they would get vital infrastructure if the application went through, were then offered a bike rack.

I live in a rural community that is constantly under threat from development. But what gets me is the number of AirBNBs & 2nd “weekend” homes standing empty half the time. It pushes house prices up for locals & takes away our housing stock. It just feels all wrong. But yeah, just keep building more!

I asked a Frenchman how come they manage to build a high speed modern rail network and the answer was the government decided to build it and it happens. No endless reviews and enquiries, they just get on with it. Our planning system has to be streamlined.

Our expectations of anyone in gov't, including the civil servants who do a great job & are unseen, need to be the same as those we place on ourselves. Labour need to make sure they look across the house. There are skills & opinions across the house that may well be valuable to the decision making
