Wilson Martell-Lebron was facing two felony charges from 2020 related to filing a false application for a driver’s license. After COVID delays, the trial began last Thursday. After court, ICE took WM-L away. WM-L did not return Friday, thus interrupting the trial.
Judge Mark Summerville held ICE agent Brian Sullivan in contempt Monday for allegedly obstructing justice. ICE Agent Sullivan, Steven Wells, and any other agent involved in the arrest were ordered Friday to appear for an evidentiary hearing, and a bench warrant was issued for Sullivan.
The judge demanded answers from prosecutors on Monday. Summerville also permanently dismissed the Suffolk County District Attorney’s case against Martell-Lebron due to prosecutorial misconduct.
ICE alleges that Martell-Lebron is originally from the Dominican Republic and is using a false name.
This is my favorite story of the year. I have been saying that state and local police need to apprehend ICE when they are acting criminally. Maybe people at risk of deportation should seek shelter inside courtrooms. This is sarcasm, but if it works, then we have a lot of fixing to do
