On this day in 1874, Johannes Peter Wagner was born in Chartiers Township (now Carnegie), PA. Over 100 years after his last game, he’s still one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Here’s my painting of him with the Pirates in 1902, based on the photography of Carl Horner.
