Love it, but the uprising depicted in Les Mis is not THE French Revolution. It's the June Rebellion of 1832, an attempt to end the Restoration of the monarchy after Napoleon. The June Rebellion failed (which is also covered in Les Mis).

The uprising in Les Mis illustrates how blind optimism without concrete planning got a bunch of students killed and failed to change anything. Hugo critiques the human suffering caused by political and religious institutions, but does not present revolution as a solution.
