The donor of this set of mutations is a LS.2 branch sampled by @pasteur.fr Cote d'Ivoire team led by professor Herve' Kadjo. Their work highlighted a previously unnoticed lineage that gained this set of mutations very early in 2024 reaching,likely, high prevalence in the country.

This local Ivorian lineage took the right train recombining then with LF.7 that likely emerged first in West Africa in spring/summer 2024 before becoming dominant in multiple far countries as Russia, Bolivia, Peru', Kenya and likely many more.

Interestingly this set of mutations have been acquired two more times: LF.7.6.2 that could be itself a recombinant squared with XFJ 8 but too few evidences of that) and LF.7.9 that independently gained 441R,445P and 475V and it is unrelated but convergent with LS.2 and XFJ

Interestingly until now this set of mutations (441R+445P+475V) has always appeared in 346T+493Q lineages. We will see if there is any costraint on 346R +493E lineages to get it and even more interesting to see if S:L441R could work with 346T+445R+493E lineages.

LF.7.9 is one of the fastest growing lineages as of today and the combination first sequenced by the field work in Cote d'Ivoire should be watched and considered when choosing the new vaccine strain.
