Not to be a bitch but the thing that people are missing in discussions in how children’s media doesn’t have help kids have curiosity abt art anymore is that like at least 80% of the young animators I have met don’t read and only watch entertainment for children

Amazon is currently working on an adaptation of Octavia Butler's Dawn and I am SO NERVOUS, not just because of the obvious concerns, but because of how young folks are going to react watching it. Butler's one of my favorite authors BECAUSE of how hard she challenged me!

being critical of who Creates Media is very good, but (in my personal experience! ymmv) i often see it used to say, essentially, "a child was hurt in this media: the creator must want to hurt children, and is actively dangerous." etcetera

Ymmv? Thats pretty any kid movie with a sad part in it unless you are talking about actual violence against a child and therefore the media reflects the author/creator’s want to do that in reality vs it being a plot device. I think its abt how lit/media is taught2younger ppl. Being open to

I truly believe from contact with educators and especially administrators that the unwillingness of ADULTS to be uncomfortable and answer questions honestly face life is key to this development
