I see a couple of reasons. Dynamic voice lines, authors being non-native speakers, lack of recording equipment, quick prototypes, some specific artistic vision.

Counterargument. You can do what every other dev in history has done: not have voice acting and find a creative, non-exploitative way around it.

The use of AI is not justified by a whimsy "But I wanna have free voice acting!! I wanna! I wanna!! I wanna!!!"

Man, I really didn't came here to argue. I just think that hate on AI tools is not justified.

By "specific artistic vision" I mean to imitate some specific kind of voice. It's really the case where voice synthesizers really shine.

Ok then. Let me ask your opinion on this: If an artist or VA sees that their hard work is being used to train AI, while AI users constantly inform them that "soon no one will need you because this tool will be able to replace you for cheap", doesn't that make the hate for AI justifiable?

Yeah, I see this take. It's a story that happened many times throughout history, although in other fields. I'm not sure if "justifiable hate" even makes sense here. There is no point being angry with life events.

Our team had a lot of fun doing all the voiceovers for the NPCs and creatures - in fact, all of those have been made by us. Not only that's obviously nicer, but also adds a "personal touch" to the game :)

I just saw someone seriously advise people have AI review publisher contracts and like... WTF? Why would you ask the Convincingly Incorrect Machine to make judgements about a complex legal document?
They said to make sure it was doing it "as a games lawyer". This breaks me.
