As much as I love SH2 remake. It blows me away people thought Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, or Medium were "shit games". As good as Silent Hill 2? Sure no way. Had issues. Absolutely...but the talent could be seen even before SH2. I stand by that thought. - ThreadSky

I feel its how they approach Mental Health and certain game decisions in games.

You get the bad ending in Blair Witch for picking up any collectible, and they dangle the object in front of you.

Layers of Fear I had a wonderful time with.
And Medium was one of those "You know, this idea is kind of cool" games.

The Medium tried to tackle a very serious topic and it spit on the face of the audience, which is why people were worried about them handling SH2 for obvious reasons. What Bloober projected with that game hurt many people, myself included, it was disgusting.

I'm sorry that affected you (along with others)as someone that also has dealt with trauma, suicide, & other mental health issues, I get it. I just didn't take that story element to the degree others did. That said I don't fault anyone that did, but I'm talking about their overall teams talent here.

It happens man. It really does. And a lot more often now. I just love having more nuisance discussion about it all. What blows my mind is these people fighting for mental health sometimes are doing the exact things that can cause worse mental health, or can lead to. What times we live in.

I never understood the hate for Layers of Fear either. It is flawed, but as an atmospheric, narrative driven game it was fun. It felt like the video game version of a haunted house.

I don’t really care for how they ended The Medium, but I personally discern the decision as not malicious towards those with mental illness.

To me, the theme of the game was empathy, and the events in the climactic act were meant to reflect the worst of *untreated/unrecognized* mental illness.

Probably not explaining my perspective well, but considering they created a fictional alternate reality where one’s inner demons are quite literal, I think the whole controversy was a bit overblown, with a few big influencer-types intrinsically tying it to their identity.

Absolutely. I'm of the thought. Games, movies, shows, etc. All should tell stories good or bad. However they see fit. With anything creative. Things can be mishandled, things can go against our own beliefs of sensativities... but this is what I'd rather have then everything put thru a filter.

Bloober is great at environmental art and scenery, still they cannot write a good story. There are interesting parts, but most of it leans heavily on the original SH2. Having the ending for every one of them be: “If you’re mentally ill, end yourself.” is not creative, it’s lazy and disrespectful.
